I had the treat of being interviewed this month by some fine folks over at Modern Farmer Magazine for their blog. What did we chat about? Farm weddings. And as you know, being the editor-in-chief of the blog I Love Farm Weddings, well – it’s obvious – I love farm weddings, so it was fun to be able to share some of my thoughts about it all AND share some of the farm wedding images I’ve taken of a few of my fabulous clients.
This interview was even more fun because I’m a new fan of theirs, Modern Farmer magazine has an important niche in the magazine world. It’s a newer publication out of New York, with editors from the New York Times and other well respected publications, and their whole focus is this:
“There has been a movement afoot in recent years to make connections between what we eat, how we live and the planet. Modern Farmer exists for people who want to be a part of that movement—it is for window-herb growers, career farmers, people who have chickens, people who want to have chickens and anyone who wants to know more about how food reaches their plate.”
If I could be friends with a magazine, this might be one of them. In my daily life, my family and I are all about making a REAL connection to our food. One of the responses I gave about this in my interview didn’t make the final cut in the article (no surprise since I am very long-winded and sent along a novel size worth of responses) but it spoke to just how important this connection is to my family:
“…But that’s also what I love about farming – the hard work, the persistence, the connection to the land and the food we eat. I’m also a vegan, raising vegan children, and there is a lot of focus in our household about where our food comes from, supporting our local communities, respecting our land, eating what nourishes us, seeking out organic, GMO-free food. Having conversations like these with my children each time we are at the store definitely keeps my connection to farming in the forefront of my mind. So there is a lot wrapped in to this connection – my personal love of farms and my adamant stance on raising wee ones who will grow up with a deep understanding of our reliance on sustainable farming.”
So, it was a great discussion pairing a couple of the things I love – farm weddings and real and sustainable food. Head over to Modern Farmer for the article! I’d love for you to read it.
Cheers,
Emily
